Re: Mauricie Open - final results

At the risk of being parochial, I was particularly pleased to note the performance of some of Ottawa's young guns: Szalay and Qin at 3.5; Mai and Marinkovic at 3.0. If I am reading correctly, Qin's only loss was to GM Sambuev while Canadian Champion Jean Hebert took points of Szalay and Marinkovic. Well done, guys.

Re: Mauricie Open - final results

In French chesstalk someone wrote this, here is a translation with Google:

Title: Sambuev Bator, the antithesis of conventional player

An unusual and original player. It is not the player that we are used to see on the first board. But what a talent! I hope
Bator Sambuev can take pleasure in Quebec for a long time.

It's a shame that chess lack of visibility in our media national and regional. I think after a while, Quebec chess players, and those who have not yet seen him, will really appreciate Sambuev's value. What a tough man? This guy has an imposing physique but inspires sympathy in equal measure.

He has nothing, absolutely nothing of the conventional elite player. His behavior under more than one aspect, closely resembles that of most Quebeckers chess players that we all know: He is often in movement walking between the first and last move of the game, he goes outside, he smokes, his gestures and facial expressions are very developed when we compare to other heads of the bunch as GM Kovalyov, and IM Roussel-Roozmon or some other like IM Rainfray as phlegmatic, almost motionless at the chess board.

This Sambuev Bator, Quebecers will quickly adopt him, I'm sure. His small eyes - his ancestors Mongolia could not deny --
are very expressives. I tell you Sambuev Bator is the antithesis of chess player we have in mind.

He walked a lot from first to last day of the COM (Mauricie Open) during his games. It is amazing the number of times he went to breath air outside - the hell it was hot in that room! - after looking at the ceiling, floor, or see some games of other players of the tournament! But remember this: "Bator is a lot in movement during a game for a chess player. "All the other players of that level would not lose their Latin (skills) either, but perhaps some would loose their concentration. Not Bator! And that's what is really impressive with him. It seems that nothing can affect him once he has press the clock for the first move.

Bator, we welcome you in Quebec. And we will say thank you for coming back home in Trois-Rivieres, to defend your title. Many
Coffee players were installed in front of your board whenever you played. It's a good sign man! You will always be appreciated among
          us.

          And bravo Bator!
