  • the Paris attack, a novelty?

I played a game last night using the Paris attack, starting with 1.Nh3. My opponent was a 2100 strength player, and I won the game. The opening was named after a famous cable match between Paris and London however when I checked my database it seems that my variation is a novelty in tournament play.

    1.Nh3 d5 2.g3 e5 3.f4N

After 3...Bd6 I found the game fairly easy to play, but the "critical" line is 3...Bxh3 4.Bxh3 exf4 5.0-0 fxg3 6.hxg3 Bd6. The evaluation is that black has a small edge but this is not insurmountable to a strong player.

Maybe this opening should not be playable but I'm proud to have come up with a novelty on the 3rd move. If anyone has ever played this opening before I'd love to see the game! It goes to show that chess has an endless reservoir of posibilities.
