  • OK now a tough one

    This problem was a favorite of Bryon Nickoloff. Bryon solved it in less than one hour. He simply would not give up. A few of the people standing around the table knew the solution and the Nick covered his ears when they tried to give him clues.

    Try to solve without Fritz. If you do use computer assistance please don't post your solution here. Really what's the point?

    The composer is Toronto's Steve Laughlin.

    It's interesting that if White doesn't win Black does! Look at those Black passed pawns promoting with check.

      Hi Nikolay,

      Thx for posting. You didn't even give the solution away! The problem is one of those that can almost be solved by process of elimination .....so one starts looking for unlikely moves. Imagine the "h" pawn being the star of the game.

        Hi Bill,

        I didnt post the solution so that other people can try solving it as well..its a really nice problem.

        Last move 5.h2-h4x mates the king :)
