Eastern Ontario Open: $20 discount ending

Hi chess fans, please note that the $20 double-early discount for registering and paying in April is about to end. To take advantage of it, you would need to have an April postmark. In other words, to be on the safe side, you should mail it externally BEFORE April 30th. That should do it. If you cannot mail it by then, please note that May is the month for the $10 early discount. To be fair to the almost 50 players who have already paid up, I will be staying true to these postmark cutoffs. As I will not be attending the RA Chess Club until May 6th, the only way to register/pay in late April, will be via mail. If you do not use cheques, then if I may suggest, just get a postal money order at the post office. The early registration list below already includes over 50 players!

N.B. As this event occurs after the end of the University school year, travelling players can get great deals to stay in the residences of Carleton University, which is a convenient walking distance from the playing site. It is not right next door, but close enough, and includes free breakfasts!

- floater players are paired and rated like all the players

The Eastern Ontario Chess Association (EOCA) organizes the EOCA Grand Prix, a series of weekend tournaments over the 2009-2010 chess season.

The next EOCA event in Ottawa will be the Eastern Ontario Open, on June 11th-13th. It will consist of 5 rounds, with flexible bye and discount options.

We are planning 4 sections (rated CFC, Top Section also rated FIDE), and prizes (2010 average > $2600) for every 200 rating points (U2400 to U1600).

I just saw an ad for cheap VIA Rail trips with discounts ending today, ending April 25.

You'll see a big sign in the centre about 60% off deals.

Toronto-Ottawa Roundtrip for $104. I don't know how good a deal that is (my first time traveling by train in a long time because it's generally quite expensive) but it's pretty comparable (financially) to taking the bus and should be a lot more comfortable. I booked my via rail ticket!
