Hi again, we are pleased to report that after April registrations, that we now have over 55 players! This is over a month before the tournament, so we should get more players than usual, and the prize fund is already over $2000! Note that as early registration discounts wind down, and all expenses have already been covered, that new registrations increase the prize fund faster than the first registrations. I know that the size of the prize fund matters a lot to some players, especially those travelling from further away, so I will try to remember to keep posting it weekly along with the list of registered players.
For new players, please note that May is the month for the $10 early discount (and there are no such discounts in June). To be fair to the 55 players who have already paid up, I sure will respect the May 31st postmark cutoff. Cheques are still welcome at the RA chess club in person (as is cash), or I really do love registration by email, followed by payment by cheque in the mail (postmarked by May 31st if taking advantage of the May $10 early discount). There are some people who do not use cheques, then if I may suggest, just get a postal money order at the post office. Many players have done this successfully.
N.B. As this event occurs after the end of the University school year, travelling players can get great deals to stay in the residences of Carleton University, which is a convenient walking distance from the playing site. It is not right next door, but close enough, and includes free breakfasts!
Yours in chess,
Aris Marghetis, FIDE Arbiter
Organizer/TD, EOCA President
