  • Canadian Open discount @ Eastern Ontario Open

I am happy to confirm that I will be assisting Hal Bond as one of his arbiters at this year's Canadian Open in Toronto. This will be about a month after the Eastern Ontario Open, for which I am the Organizer/TD. From my own personal viewpoint, I would like to somehow tie these events together, and get as many players as possible from Eastern Ontario to join the Canadian Open. So, I am offering a special discount for players at the Eastern Ontario Open, where you can register with me for the Canadian Open for only $185 (the current rate is $195) [without impact to the Eastern Ontario Open prize fund] !!

Back to registrations for the Eastern Ontario Open itself, we are now up to 57 players, and our prize fund should be at least $2100. These numbers could end up growing a lot in the next few weeks, and I will try to update them on ChessTalk regularly. Please note that the $10 May discount is about to expire.

Therefore, if you want to take advantage of the $10 May discount, you need to mail in your registration before May 31st, in order to ensure a postmark during the month of May. As I do not expect to attend the RA club before the actual Eastern Ontario Open, please register/pay by mail as soon as feasible.

Regardless of whether you register/pay by mail, or onsite at the last minute, please feel free to email me beforehand, to speed up registrations. There are some people who do not use cheques, then if I may suggest, just get a postal money order at the post office. Many players have done this successfully.

N.B. As this event occurs after the end of the University school year, travelling players can get great deals to stay in the residences of Carleton University, which is a convenient walking distance from the playing site. It is not right next door, but close enough, and includes free breakfasts!

    Yours in chess,

    Aris Marghetis, FIDE Arbiter
    Organizer/TD, EOCA President

Please note that we are looking for up to 4 floater players :
    - floater players help the TD guarantee no “forced byes”
    - floater players are paired and rated like all the players
    - floater players play for free, but under some conditions :
----- they play in 0 to 5 rounds, depending on byes by all the players
----- they can be phoned/texted in the hour before every single round
----- they have a current CFC membership by the time of first pairings
if you are interested in being a floater player for this event, please apply by email
