Eastern Ontario Open: already 60 players (Canadian Open discount)

I am pleased to report we already have 60 players after early registrations! This includes a GM, two IMs, and a nice spread of players across 4 rating sections. The prize fund has crossed $2200, and will grow onsite! Registration payments are still being accepted by mail this week, or early onsite.

Note that I am working the next two Thursday evenings. Therefore, if you are a local player who was hoping to pay me in cash at one of the RA chess club evenings, you will instead have to mail in your registration payment this week, or arrive early on Friday, June 11th, to pay cash onsite. There are no price differences between mailing this week, and onsite at the event, but the earlier the better for me. Especially if paying onsite, please email me ahead of time!

N.B. As this event occurs after the end of the University school year, travelling players can get great deals to stay in the residences of Carleton University, which is a convenient walking distance from the playing site. It is not right next door, but close enough, and includes free breakfasts!

( Regarding this year's Canadian Open in Toronto, I am looking forward to assisting Hal Bond as one of his arbiters. This will be about a month after the Eastern Ontario Open, for which I am the Organizer/TD. From my own personal viewpoint, I would like to somehow tie these events together, and get as many players as possible from Eastern Ontario to join the Canadian Open. So, I am offering a special discount for players at the Eastern Ontario Open, where you can register with me for the Canadian Open for only $185 (the current rate is $195) [without impact to the Eastern Ontario Open prize fund] !! )

- floater players are paired and rated like all the players
- floater players play for free, but under some conditions :

The Eastern Ontario Chess Association (EOCA) organizes the EOCA Grand Prix, a series of weekend tournaments over the 2009-2010 chess season.

The next EOCA event in Ottawa will be the Eastern Ontario Open, on June 11th-13th. It will consist of 5 rounds, with flexible bye and discount options.

We are planning 4 sections (rated CFC, Top Section also rated FIDE), and prizes (2010 average > $2600) for every 200 rating points (U2400 to U1600).

Hi again, as of this afternoon, we are at 64 players, but the prize fund is almost $2700.

The reason for this jump in prize fund without a jump in players, is because over the last several days, a few players who had registered with an early discount have withdrawn, but they are being replaced by new players who are paying non-early registration fees.

By the way, for the 5 weekend tournaments that I run at the RA Centre, I would be happy to welcome someone offering to organize billeting. For example, grow a list of local players who would be willing to host travelling players. The model could include discounts for the local players when it comes to their registration fees, and free entry for the person who runs this. What I need is commitment to do it for all 5 of the Ottawa weekend events for which I am Organizer/TD, and to save me from any more new work!
