Re: KW Chess Club Team Active Challenge

Kitchener was able to supply a pair of teams this year, both mainly members seen from the city hall club this time. Mario Piccinin (Kitchener) asked me to fill a 4th seat for the Kitchener reserve team - & snuck away with 2.5/3 at 4th board (board 1, 2, 3, 4 would account for (at most) 4, 3, 2, 1 points, respectively) - with apparently 5 or 6 tables always kept occupied. FM Hans Jung (Kitchener) fielded their non-reserves team, with Dan Raats, Shawn Phillips & Mahmud Hassain manning the oars to set sail for a team win after 5 rounds, & are soon to have their city name engraved on the team trophy that previous winner Windsor who were unable to attend for defending it this year. Brantford, London, etc were a few of the clubs to be seen this year, & thanks for showing up. The final round featured Cormier holding FM Jung to a draw in what was reported to be a good battle on Cormier's part.

"Nicholson, Matthew" vs "Cristian Dragan", June Kitchener team event, 2009, round 5 was a bit of a puzzle, since it had another name crossed out, & then Dragan added - but it wasn't what the cross-table http://www.chess.ca/xtableSQL.asp?TNum=200906081 indicated for the active pairing:

    1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Bxc3+ 6. bxc3 Ne7 7. Qg4 Qc7 8. Bd2
    Nbc6 9. Nf3 O-O 10. Bd3 f5 11. Qh5 Bd7 12. g4 g6 13. Qh6 fxg4 14. Ng5 Rf7 15.
    Nxf7 Kxf7 16. Qxh7+ Kf8 17. Bh6+ Ke8 18. Qh8+ Kf7 19. Qf6+ {Cristian today has climbed in rating a bit since last year - after signing his name a bit on this year's Kitchener youth plaque with Ross Cunningham} 1-0

"Mike" vs "Lee Hendon" is a leftover scoresheet from 2010:
    1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Bxc6 bxc6 5. f4 d5 6. d3 e6 7. Nf3 Bd6 8. O-O
    Ne7 9. b3 Ng6 10. e5 Bb8 11. Na4 Ba7 12. c4 O-O 13. Qd2 f5 14. Ba3 Nh4 15. Nxh4
    Qxh4 16. Qf2 Qxf2+ 17. Kxf2 h6 18. Bxc5 g5 19. g3 Rf7 20. Bxa7 Raxa7 21. c5 a5 {eventually - the sheet empties after "21 Be6 g4 22 d5"} 1-0

Other scoresheets were apparently not collected for this active event. Stay tuned to the CFC site for the 2010 cross-table.

    Cheers,
    Kai

Windsor won two years ago in the first year that this event was held. Hans Jung's team won last year as well. Congratulations to the winners! Hopefully Windsor will be able to field a team next year. We had three players who were both interested and able to play but could not find a fourth.
