Very interesting article on a Grand Prix where you gain points only by winning games against players 100 points or higher above you.

The only problem with this is that just some tournaments qualify you for this points.

And even in the same tournament one would get some points, others can not in principle. (thus the system is not very fair)

Re: USCF Junior Grand Prix - A Modified System

        Hi Egis:

It seems the GP is for the purpose of encouraging weak juniors to study and play a lot, because they are the ones always playing up, and getting points. The top juniors have no one to play to win points from, so they can never win, as you point out.

I was thinking of a system where you amend the rules somewhat to allow juniors to also win points, maybe less, say 5 points, for defeating someone up to 100 pts. lower rated. Would this help to make the system more interesting to stronger juniors?

It seems to me that this Grand Prix does not eliminate other similar competitions. It simply encourages young players to get better by playing up.
