  • Unclaimed funds in banks

According to Hugh Brodie's post below, there is an unclaimed balance of $1108.77 in the former Canadian Chess Chat account. There is also an additional $700 in various defunct club accounts. It would be a shame for this money to not be used for chess purposes.
Perhaps the CFC could create a new Chess Chat entity and then direct the bank to release the funds to it.
I would propose the funds to be used as follows:
The fund administrator would select tournaments from time to time to be awarded a best game prize - say $50. The players would submit their candidate games to the T.D. who would forward them to the admin. who would select the winning entry.
I also propose that the fund administrator be Hugh Brodie who discovered the unclaimed accounts - almost like 'finders keepers' :) Hugh has been compiling Canadian's chess games for a number of years (decades?). and is always asking organizers to send him games. This would make his task easier. After today's chess players are gone, their games would live on! This collection of games would only grow in historic value!
Is there a CFC governor willing to submit this proposal for discussion at the AGM this month?
