Days Inn is a smaller but well appointed hotel. If you want to stay there you should contact them asap for availability.

The days Inn manager has put aside several rooms for the Hamilton City Chess Club, but, they will only be held until Aug 17, so if you wanted to stay over night book your rooms now.

Once again, their phone number is (905) 528-3297.

What was the approximate prize money form last years tourney? Maybe that will help make a quicker decision to play.

I can't remember Winter Open's prize fund off hand, but the Summer Open 2009 was about $1400 at 63 players.

The night clerk didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned the Hamilton City Chess Club.

Edit: Later he was willing to rent a room at $90 per night but said that Garvin had to do something or other.

I reserved a room at Motel 6 in Burlington for $59.99 per night and Garvin doesn't have to do anything.

I am sorry about all that, I will phone them and find out whats going on. But the motel 6 deal sounds pretty good.

If anyone finds out about good hotel or motel deals please post it here.

Its not a big deal. I usually try to stay in a Motel 6 which usually involves some commuting during the tournament but with a trade off of a much better price. At an extra $25 per night the convenience factor might have won out but at an iffy $30 per night I figured I'd just go back to old reliable.

The tournament would be a lot more attractive if there were 100 point limits on playing up like they do in Kitchener and Guelph. Playing someone 400 or 500 points below you pretty much kills your performance rating and any chances for significant rating gains unless you win every game (which won't likely happen, in my case anyway).

Think of it this way, if you are having a bad tournament you can hopefully get an easy last round to get your confidence back(that's probably going to be my tournament results atleast).
University and Chess, a difficult mix.
