  • IM Nikolay Noritsyn

Looks like he validated his spot on the olympic team with the best results among the Canadians.

I'd hate to see the Olympiad Selection process become a nonstop rating chase for all the contendors too much of chess revolves around ratings. Winning events has to count; Nikolay has a history of winning chess events.

ps It is clear from recent results Toronto likely has a deflated FIDE rating pool which is only overcome by a rapidly inflating CFC rating pool since the rule changes. Aman plays a more relaxed schedule then some and his FIDE is 2131, but that didn't stop him from winning CYCC U18 ( with Eric Hansen in the field ) and posting numerous strong results against titled players at the CO. This is tremendous data to support the need for Selection Committees, and definately squashes the idea that FIDE rating alone is a relevant criteria for Canadians.
