  • Montreal Open Championship

Chess lovers are all cordially invited to the first tournament of the Tour du Québec 2010-2011, the Montreal Open Championship September 10 to 12. The playing hall, located in patrimonial college Jean-de-Brébeuf, features a guaranteed prize fund of $6,000 and a large free parking area accessible from the main entrance of the college.

For all details and live top games during the competition : www.echecsmontreal.ca/chom/. Around mid-August we will begin posting there up-to-date lists of enrolled participants.

    TRANSPORTATION
Participants from outside of Montreal, many regional and interprovincial busses will bring you to the City : www.coachcanada.com, www.greyhound.ca, www.orleansexpress.com etc. They all drop you at the Gare d’autocars de Montréal, linked to metro station Berri-UQAM. At this point you are about forty minutes away from the playing site.. take the metro orange line #2 going to Montmorency ; transfer at Jean-Talon station onto blue line #5 going to Snowdon ; exit at Université-de-Montréal and walk 11 minutes to the tournament hall.

    LODGING
Need lodging ? If you come by car, particularly from West of Montreal, you will find very affordable facilities on the South Shore in Brossard, at motel Rideau www.motelrideau.ca : $50/night double occupancy, $60 quadruple occupancy. 30 minutes away from the playing hall by car.
If you want to stay in Montreal, type « hotel de charme montreal » or « bed and breakfast montreal » and discover reasonably priced accommodations, breakfast included (Anne ma sœur Anne, Château L’Argoat, Couette et café Cherrier…), at $80-$100/night single occupancy, $90 and more double occupancy.
For more luxurious facilities, try Maritime Hotel downtown, right beside Lucien-Lallier metro station and half an hour away from the playing hall. A room block has been reserved for chessplayers until August 7 on a first come, first served basis. Make sure to mention “Chess Championship” in order to obtain their preferred rate ($109/night single occupancy, $119 double occupancy).

The official web site is much improved over last year's version. No more loud music when you first access it, and it is easy to use the links.
