Michael Kleinman took the lead after defeating IM Krnan in the fifth round.
Kleinman is a creative young player whose opening play is marked with original ideas, as i have witnessed (as the referee of the grade 10 section) in the recent Ontario Chess Challenge. His victory over another talented youth player Roman Sapozhnikov in the last round, created a match for the second place between him and Sapozhnikov (while Arthur Calugar emerged as the champion with 5/5 result). In that tie-breaker match, Kleinman displayed a high level of sportsmanship when he offered a draw to Sapozhnikov - who has to leave and could have lost by forfeit. In the ensuing tie break points calculations, he emerged with the higher tie break to claim the second place.
