    Re: 2010 World Junior Ch.

    In Rd. 6 ( Monday, Aug. 9 ):

    IM Raja ( 2395 ) defeated a GM - Ter-Sahakyan, Samvel ( 2525 ) of Armenia. He now has 4 / 6 pts..

    FM Shiyam ( 2318 ) drew an IM - Can, Emre ( 2477 ) of Turkey - he has 3.5/6.

Likely Raja's game in Rd. 7 today, Tues. Aug 10, will be broadcast ( and maybe Shiyam's too ). I think they start at 9:00 AM EDT ( but I'm not sure on this - that is the New York time - can someone confirm what time the broadcast starts? ). The games are broadcast live at http://www.wjcc2010.pl/en/gry-on-line

So far, outstanding performances by our two juniors, which may be an indication of how much our juniors are generally underrated (FIDE).

Another really impressive win by Raja today, on the Black side of an unusual Queen's Gambit. He won in under 30 moves! :) :) Raja now has 5 out of 7, and has risen into the top ten. He will have very tough pairings from here on.

The top seed in this year's championship is GM Andreikine (2650) of Ukraine, whom Raja played (and was beating before eventually losing!) in the 2000 World Youth Championship, U10, in Spain, his first international event. I annotated that game for the magazine in 2000, and it was a high-standard encounter.

Raja wins again, this time with black against the 17th ranked Indian Player, IM Sethuraman rated 2513.

Shiyam is hanging tough with black against 9th ranked GM Spoelman of NED. Tough for me to evaluate but Shiyam looks to be better in my eyes after 35 moves.

Shiyam just won on move 41! I guess I was right?!

Outstanding performances by both our players today. Well done guys!!!

Huge game! Very nice manoeuvring from Shiyam considering that at the end he had 3 minutes for 16 moves.

You're right its difficult to assess... I think it was really unclear until 36. Nxh5? and 37. Nf4?? which was just horrible.

Yes, 37. Nf4 looks like a blunder but what to do? If 37. g3 then 37. ... Ncxe5. Probably the best was 37. Nf6+, white gives up e5 pawn but still holds. Instead of 36. Nxh5 maybe better was 36. Ne4 trying to bring knight on g5.

                              37. Nf6 is a billion times better than 37. Nf4... at least its still a game and white can probably hold.
