With September comes the 51st season of chess at the Scarborough Chess Club. To start the season, we kick things off with our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. At the meeting we will be electing the 2010/2011 club executive and discussing a number of important club issues. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting and help shape the future of the club.
The next week on Thursday, September 9, we start our series of multi-week Swiss tournaments with the Howard Ridout Memorial. The Ridout Memorial is a 7-round Swiss in two sections -- Open and Under 1700. This tournament like all SCC tournaments is open to all club members and there's no entry fee. If you need to renew your CFC membership, you can do that at the club (cash or cheques only). For the Ridout Memorial Swiss as with all our Swiss tournaments, you can join mid-tournament with byes for the rounds you've missed.
To register for the Ridout Memorial please send me an email at skarpik@sympatico.ca or show up at the club between 7:00 and 7:15 p.m. on September 9th to sign up in person. There will also be a sign-up sheet at the AGM for the tournament. If you plan to register on the day of the first round in person, please be prompt as we want to get play underway at 7:30 p.m. sharp.
The AGM and all SCC tournament play happen at the Birkdale Community Centre located at 1299 Ellesmere Road in the north-east of Toronto.
