    Hi Francis,

Is this an Open tournament (one section only)?

    Thank you,

    Rene

      Hi Rene,

This is an extra section, in addition to our regular categories.

The tournament is our monthly event, grouped into sections
by rating - the regular prizes being medals and ribbons:-)

I would however like to make kids' chess more competitive
and attractive - good sponsorship is the way to go! One of
the first to come on board has been the 'Spirit of Math'
organisation, who are looking to sponsor more of our events.

To encourage the relatively stronger players to participate
competitively, a special closed section for players rated
over 1000 has been created, with the prize sponsorship
from Spirit of Math. This is in addition to all the regular
sections we run - there is no extra entry fee either!

We hope to encourage kids to work harder to improve their
ratings to over 1000 and qualify for the prize-money section:-)

      Francis.

Please take note that these are NOT cash prizes but they are gift certificates for Strategy Games. CMA does not give cash prizes in scholastic events.

          :-)

Lots of inquiries re. the Spirit of Math section, so here's a quick update:

          i. you do not need a special "invite", it's open to all juniors over 1000.
ii. you do not need to specify - if you are over 1000, your entry will be
automatically grouped, unless you indicate otherwise - send mail to:
          toronto@chess-math.org;
iii. yes, the event is computerized and paired by SwissSys
iv. yes, we do appreciate pre-registration:
          http://www.chesstalk.com/registration/

          Francis.

P.S. You're in for quite a pleasant surprise on the 26th Sept- particularly
if you were a participant in CMA events 2005-2008! Keep guessing!
