The surprise for me was a renovation done in the basement. The basement as a storage space became a good looking chess club what may host about 20-25 people. Judge for yourselves.

(I came a little bit early >> no other players downstairs yet)

Event started with nine players in RR, one joined later. Several came too late. The players levels were >2000, with young M.Plotkin being alone U2000 :) Roman Sapozhnikov won and took the first price ($100), then followed Victor Plotkin (2), Michael Barron (3).

        Round one.

We now have 2 regular weekly blitz tournaments in Toronto

          ....Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

The transformation of the Strategy Games basement into a nice looking chess club is all due to the efforts of Mr. Francis Rodriguez, and family.

Thank you very much , sir.

Friday Nite Blitz continues this Fri. 1 Oct. too, 6:30 pm!

With lots of out-of-towners in T.O. this weekend - GM Charbonneau,
WGM Jennifer Shahade, etc (we could even get her to autograph her
"Chess Bitch" at the Store!), you never know who you'll run into at
these rapidly-building Friday Nite Blitzes on 701 Mt. Pleasant.

            As the man said -

            "Be there, or....be square!"

All 64 of them, I guess!:-)

              Another Friday Night Blitz cometh.....!

For truly great blitz, without all the stings and
burrs of costly "membership", make a beeline
tonite to 701 Mt. Pleasant, 6:30 pm as usu.

Yes, we are the real deal, dare I say not an addition,
or supplement or appendix, or uh...annexe?

              Touche!

              :-)

Your transformation to the dark side is complete!
Your master, Emperor Larry, has taught you well.

Very creative with the optical illusion of the mirrors making the basement look twice as big.

Look 2 Romans, 2 Plotkins, and 2 Barrons; what a strong chess club!

Correction, make that 4 times as big with the right-angled mirror in the corner! LOL

                        Schedules:

                        Saturday:
                        Round 1: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
                        Lunch Break 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
                        Round 2: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
                        Round 3: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

                        Sunday:
                        Round 4: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
                        Round 5: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

With a maximum of 24 player per week (assuming at full house capacity) and an entry fee of $100 per player. If it's too high an entry fee say $50 with half the prize fund in this case.

                        Total Prize Fund of $2400.

                        1st Place: $1000
                        2nd Place: $500
                        3rd Place: $300
                        4th Place: $200

With $400 goes to the improvements of the Chess Club and/or Refreshments.

Do you think this tournament setup will be attractive? Sounds attractive to me!

                        Thanks!
