    The Grand Pacific Open is BC's largest chess event and this will be it's 5th annual! The main event is a 6 round FIDE and CFC rated Swiss with $4000 in prizes. There are also a number of side events which are free if you play in the main event and include a Scholastic tournament, an active tournament, Midnight Blitz with $100 in prizes, and a Bughouse tournament to finish off the weekend.

    The tournament hall itself is the Vancouver Island Ballroom overlooking the harbour at the 5 Star Hotel Grand Pacific. The hotel is located on the Inner Harbour in downtown Victoria, close to tourist destinations and across the street from the Seatle Clipper and Coho ferry connections.

        Late April is a great time to visit Victoria

        Peak flower season. Great weather. Book your vacation on an island in the Pacific. See you in April. Beaches nearby. Lots of walking, jogging and cycling trails nearby. Ocean tours, museums, galleries and more.



        A great rate is available again this year at the Hotel Grand Pacific $99 double or single occupancy. Children stay free with parents. Great central location. No car is necessary. Hundreds of restaurants, cafes, and shops within walking distance.

        Seattle Clipper and the Port Angeles Ferry dock across the street from the hotel. Float planes and helicopter access also nearby. Public bus just $2.50 from the Ferry Terminal at Swartz Bay. One bus all the way downtown and within a few minute walk to the hotel.
