  • Alberta Open

The Alberta Open is a sell-out this year. With limited space we could only fit in 48 players and at the last moment, we squeezed in a few more boards to make for a total of 52 players. The winner, if an Albertan, qualifies to the 2011 Alberta Closed which will be held in Calgary over the Easter weekend.

We will be broadcasting the top 3 boards live on our website. Standings, pairings and photos will also be availible throughout the event.

The first round starts at 10 am Mountain time. I will try and enter as many games as I can throughout the weekend. All available games will be posted on the website as the tournament progresses.

I decided to hold the Alberta Speed Chess Championship on Friday evening. The event was organized on short notice, but we managed to draw 14 players. Nobody was surprised when Eric Hansen cruised to victory with an undefeated 10/10. The final standings are available on the Edmonton & Calgary Yahoo newsgroups. We will also be posting on these two newsgroups throughout the event.

    Re: Alberta Open

Registrations closed at 51 players. We can accommodate one more if someone were to walk in.
We got off to a late start, 20 minutes mainly due to some issues with the printer which I was eventually able to resolve. I would have hated having to bark out the pairings. Other glitches aside, things are now running smoothly. Here are the boards being broadcast for the first round.
Board 1: Bill Bentley vs. IM Edward Porper
Board 2: Robert J. Gardner vs. Adam Harris
Board 3: James Flemming vs. Keith MacKinnon

I will post some photos, perhaps later today. As well, I will post as many games as I can enter.
