Congratulations to our new World Under 10 champion!
Jason has been an active CMA participant for the last two years at tournaments which are organized by the Victoria Chess Society. He is 9 yrs old and is a grade 5 student at Campus View Elementary School. I spoke with Brian Raymer (the awesome Victoria organizer who with his gang, will be hosting the 2011 National Finals of the Canadian Chess Challenge) this morning and he tells me that Jason became curious about the game when he passed by the Victoria gang playing outdoor chess at Willows Beach (they do that from May to September on Saturdays from 10 am - noon). You can see a picture at the Victoria Chess Society webpage:

Shortly thereafter, Jason took part in a chess camp which was put on by Greg Churchill (Greg has been teaching chess daily for nine years in several Victoria schools) and earned his first official Chess'n Math rating!
The Chess'n Math Association, Canada's National Scholastic Chess Organization, is proud to announce that we are awarding Jason with a $1,000 gift certificate for his INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE!
He will be able to purchase $1,000 worth of chess books & equipment at our Strategy Game store (on-line or through Brian) FOR FREE!

Congratulations again Jason! We are all very proud of you!
