it has been mentioned in previous posts that if Whtie plays 6.Bg5 against the Najdorf, the only line that is playable is the Poisoned Pawn as the B99 line is busted.

i'm daydreaming at work and wondering if there is a problem, theoretically, with transposing to a Richter-Rauzer after

    1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Bg5 Nc6

can White refute? i'm sure ECO/Fritz has the answer right away but i don't have access to either right now

It's playable. I don't know what happens at the top levels but here's one from Canadian Chess about 20 years ago. It should copy and paste.

      Re: Sicilian transpo

i guess the only thing that doesn't transpose is 7.Bxf6 gxf6 and 50 years of Sveshnikov theory has shown that it isn't immediately losing :) thanks for the game

        Re: Sicilian transpo

Yeah, this line just transposes to Richter Rauzer but unless you have some experience with the typical pawn structure and queenside castling for both sides, it's probably not a great idea since most players will automatically just take on f6 and as white sicilian players who know what they're doing have clear points of attack and black usually has to wait for white to over-extend and go for f5 or d5 breaks. I dunno about you, but it's kinda boring to sit around.

Re: Sicilian 6.Bg6 Najdorf to Classical

You might try waiting a move for ...Nc6 i.e.

6.Bg5 e6 7.f4 Nc6!? which has a nice article in NIC YB93(Kuzmin,A). Vachier-Lagrave has taken it up but needs some deep theory knowledge to back it up and make it playable.

Is 7…Nc6 in the 6.Bg5 Najdorf still playable? CVO #96 says no

That site's misleading... I was so hyped up to see why Nc6 is refuted by this cool GM name and then it says I gotta subscribe... bummer!
