    Jim Cairns Memorial Chess Tournament

    Saturday February 26th 2011

    at Princess Street United Church, Kingston, Ontario.

    This is a semi-formal tournament, for friends of Jim who are no longer active chess players, as well as for competitive chess players.

    Coffee and donuts will be provided at registration, and pizza at lunchtime.

    All players will play five games, with a time limit of 40 minutes per player per game. They can leave before the last round if they wish.

    Everyone will play in a single section, or two sections if there are more than 32 players. - Players will be paired based on either a current CFC or CXR rating, or by their estimate based on an old rating, or they may play as an unrated player. (The results of the tournament will not be rated.)

    A number of chess sets and clocks will be provided. - Please bring your own if you have them.

    Pat Cairns is donating some chess books from Jim's library as prizes. - Section winners will receive book plates, and their choice of the books.

    Entrance fee: a donation of $20 per player is requested. - The balance of entry fees after expenses will be donated to the Chess Federation of Canada's fund for the Chess Olympiad, which Jim used to support.

    Schedule:

    10.00 Registration and payment of fee. Registration will be in the back hall of
    Princess Stree United Church: the entrance is from Alfred Street.
    Advance registration is not required, but please advise Chris (details below) if you are
    planning to participate, to make sure we order enough food.
    Free coffee and donuts.
    10.30 - 11.50 Round One
    12.00 - 1.20 Round Two
    Lunch - Pizza provided.
    1.50 - 3.10 Round Three
    3.20 - 4.40 Round Four
    Break
    5.10 - 6.30 Round Five
    Presentations
    7.00 Finish

    The tournament is being organized and directed by members of the Kingston Chess Club, and of the Kingston Area Schools Chess Tournament Roadteam, both of which Jim enthusiastically participated in for many years.
