Ok. I change my prediction to Jim vs. Anastasia 1-1
(Now the South wins by .5) I'm not sure why I'm cheering for the South since I live closer to Edmonton, but it just feels like the right team :D

My money is on South players winning most games. BTW if you check the map, Edmonton is in the SOUTH half of the Province :D

As TD for the event, I must remain neutral. That being said, I must say that Vlad is a very wise man and knows where to put his money.

            Keith,

I don't question your loyalty, I question your math :)
How can the South win by .5? The scores wouldn't add up to 24.

Oh, well that changes things. We are absolutely going to clobber the North now!
              Look out Grande Prairie.

Does the ACA have a new website address? www.albertachess.org seems to have been allowed to expire, kidnapped. I can find the frontpage by accessing google cache, but that's not the page I want to read.

Sorry if I'm posting this query in the wrong place.

                How did the casino go?

Just to make this almost on topic, the match lineup on both sides is impressive. In 7 games against the combined contingents, I'm only +1. And some of the games are so ancient that dinosaurs roamed the earth. Well, this is Alberta we're talking about.

                  Hi Jonathan,

The site has been redesigned and is still hosted on the same server with the link you provided. We are having some issues with the new site as there are several people who have not been able to access it. I am not an experienced webdesigner by any stretch, and am seeking the help and advice of those with more experience to help solve the problems. Another problem we have is that if you search for Alberta Chess and the likes on google or yahoo, when you click on the link provided you are redirected to another site selling viagra and such. We were hacked in February, and I thought I had resolved this issue, but its happening again. Help!

The casino went very well. Ford works very hard at lining everybody up and making sure our volunteers are in place. He was 100% again with this casino and details will be forthcoming when the report is completed.

                    Tony,

I'm no expert either. Had I felt confident to deal with such ill winds, I might have applied to be the CFC web editor... But what you state is exactly what happens to me. I go to google and the first hit claims to be www.albertachess.org, I click it and it goes to the obvious kidnap site. If I go to the same page cached, it is correct. Or if I type www.albertachess.org in the address box, I also get the right site (in Opera with Java turned off; but in Firefox 2 with Java turned on, again it is the kidnap page). It almost looks like google has been hacked rather than the ACA. Yet the google links look exactly right, even if >View > Source is examined (in hex!).

Could this be the same "exploit" that was plaguing the CFC site not so many weeks ago?

Re: Battle of Alberta: September 20th in Red Deer

I wasn't aware that the CFC suffered from this problem.

I am thinking that it might be the server itself.

Try this link which goes to another page on the site and see if that works.

The link crashes Acrobat for me, I think because I have my browser set not to read .PDF files. I always download and then read in the Acrobat app, not in a plug-in. I suspect there's a script somewhere on that page to help along the loading of PDFs. It's an html link, it shouldn't be trying to load PDF unless you click something on the page. But at least it doesn't lead to the kidnap page.

There are several forum members (I'd start with Steve Karpik, though I believe that Kerry Liles and probably a dozen younger members could probably diagnose the problem) who are aware in more technical detail of what the CFC problem was. The thread was in the old chess talk, which is no longer among my browser tabs!
