Tomorrow night (Thursday, January 6, 2011) the Scarborough Chess Club kicks off a 7-round Swiss -- the Jack Frost tournament. The Jack Frost Swiss is the last tournament before the Scarborough Chess Club Championship and is being held in three sections -- 2000+, U2000 and U1700 plus unrated.
Entry to the Jack Frost tournament is free to all members of the Scarborough Chess Club. If you haven't entered for the tournament and want to play, please email me at skarpik@sympatico.ca. So far we've got 60 players registered. It's usually pretty busy just before round 1, so save yourself some trouble tomorrow night by emailing me in advance.
Just a reminder to those players who hope to play in the round-robin championship section about new qualification rules for this year. The round-robin section is open to the winner of last year's Championship reserve section plus the 9 top rated players who will have played at least 10 games in the 3 tournaments leading up to the 2010-2011 championship (Howard Ridout Memorial, Falling Leaves Swiss and Jack Frost Swiss).
The Jack Frost Swiss runs from Thursday, January 6 to Thursday, February 17, 2011 (7 rounds). The first round of the championships (Round Robin section plus two reserves sections) starts on February 24 and runs for 9 weeks.
