  • Ottawa Winter Open: FIDE rating adjustments

Hi chess friends, with the Ottawa Winter Open starting tonight, I had double-checked the CFC ratings as of the Wednesday rating list, and using the established FIDE ratings posted today, I cross-checked against those. If the FIDE rating was higher, then we are using that for ranking/sectioning.

Therefore, barring mistakes on my behalf, the player list further below is the one that we are going to onsite registrations with. If you feel that there are any inconsistencies, or expect to register/pay onsite tonight before 7pm, please email me before 3pm, or the sooner the better. Note that I will no longer have email connectivity after sometime before 4pm. If you are planning to register/pay tonight, but only start playing in Round 2, please come by 9pm.

P.S. As I was not available yesterday to take registrations at the RA club, with the $10 early discounts, it will still be $10 off for new players tonight.

    Yours in chess,

    Aris Marghetis, FIDE Arbiter
    Organizer/TD, EOCA President

    --------- original event announcement ---------

The Eastern Ontario Chess Association (EOCA) organizes the EOCA Grand Prix, a series of weekend tournaments over the 2010-2011 chess season.

The next EOCA event in Ottawa is the Ottawa Winter Open, set for January 14th-16th. It will consist of 5 rounds, with flexible bye and discount options.

We are planning 5 sections (rated CFC, upper sections also rated FIDE), and prizes for every 200 rating points (last 3 Ottawa events averaged >$2700!)

For more details on this event, and a great webpage for all of the events in the 2010-2011 EOCA Grand Prix, please consider bookmarking this weblink :
