  • Round 8 Tata-Corus: Wesley SO keeps the lead with 6/8

Wesley So 2673 has jumped into the lead after defeating GM Wouter Spoelman 2547 of the Netherlands in an exciting transition to the endgame. So's center pawns were deadly after forcing the exchange of queens, leading to a Rook vs 2 Bishops endgame. So scored his 4th straigth win after 4 straight draws. What is amazing in this game is the degree of difficulty in visualizing the use of the b file by black plus the marathon f the central black pawns.
Super GM Luke McShane 2664 had to settle for a draw against the Armenian super GM Sargissian 2667 and has dropped to a possible second place, depending on the result of Efimenko 2701 who is battling GM Tchatchiev for the draw at the moemnt.
In GM Group C, Canadian GM Mark Bluvstein 2590 lost to Dutch IM Bok 2453 from a Pirc Defense when the dutchman crushed through the kingside and game a mate with a rook. Bluvstein needs to regroup and win his last 5 games to finish among the top 4, where he is seeded #3.
In GM Group a, Carslsen showed Nakamura the result of having studied under Kasparov. I wonder how much he paid those training sessions.

bluvshtein most certainly does not need to win his last 5 games to finish among the top 4. he's currently a half point out of 4th. WTFFFFFF
