Vassily Ivanchuk and Michael Adams are the star attractions, but there is Canadian content to keep an eye on in the Masters Group.

    IM David Cummings
    IM Leon Piasetski
    FM Michael Dougherty

Good luck to the Canadian contingent.....

Leon defeated French GM Jean-Pierre LeRoux (2551) in Round 1. It appears the GM slipped badly on 22...Bd5, instead of 22.Bxf5, making the retreat to e6 impossible

It appears Spraggett didn't make it. He seems busy commenting on the state of the CFC on his website.

He has never confirmed that is ... his own website! Somebody else has used his name to create that.

I find it hard to believe that website is the work of some sycophant... although there appear to be many "followers" of Spraggett.

Just in case people are taking these previous posters as being serious, I can assure you this site is GM Kevin Spraggett's. I have had several discussions with him by e-mail in the past couple of months.

I like to think I'm sufficiently thick skinned that I can read his frequently negative commentary on the CFC Governors and Executive without losing sleep.

However, there is adult oriented content at this site in the way of cartoons, pictures, and jokes, so you should be careful before directing your children or students there.

I think he gave his only copy to Peter Stockhausen...

Michael Dougherty defeated GM Juan Bellon Lopez yesterday and now leads the Canadian pack with 4.5/8. Today he is paired with Irina Krush.

Should he win that one, he'd need one final victory against a 2556 player for an IM norm (I think - someone can double check that). Nobody said it was easy :-)
