  • Ottawa Spring Open: already 50 players

Good news, as of last weekend, we were up to 52 players, with almost a month to go. We are now in the February $20 double-early discount period. In other words, any mailed payment with a February postmark would be $20 off. For people who prefer to pay in person at the RA club, please note that I cannot attend this Thursday, the 10th, nor next Thursday, the 17th. I would prefer that you just mail your payment in, as Thursday the 24th looks free for now, but I might be assigned to work that evening. If you pay and then change your mind, you could simply defer your registration to my next event, etc.

Also for local chess fans, I am offering to organize billeting of travelling players. The standard rate will be $30 per person per night. If you are interested in hosting your chess-bed-n-breakfast, please email me to be included on a confidential list. If a travelling player asks to be billeted, I will BCC you their email address, and some relevant info about them, and you can decide on your own if you would like to extend the offer. There is no obligation to host anyone.

    Yours in chess,

    Aris Marghetis, FIDE Arbiter
    Organizer/TD, EOCA President

Please note that we are looking for up to 5 floater players :
    - floater players help the TD guarantee no “forced byes”
    - floater players are paired and rated like all the players
    - floater players play for free, but under some conditions :
----- they play in 0 to 5 rounds, depending on byes by all the players
----- they can be phoned/texted in the hour before every single round
----- they have a current CFC membership by the time of first pairings
If you are interested in being a floater player for this event, please apply by email

Re: Ottawa Spring Open: already 50 players

Hi there, just a friendly bump reminder that I will not be at the RA this Thursday. Please refer to the original post in this thread regarding how to register by mail instead, etc.

    Thanks and regards, Aris.

Re: Ottawa Spring Open: already 50 players

Hi there, just a friendly bump reminder that I still do expect to visit the RA club this Thursday, but only after the weekly round has started at 730pm. I will be driving in from out of town after dinner, predicting making it to tha RA by 845pm at the latest. I then have to leave for work by 915pm. In other words, if you would like to register in person this Thursday at the RA club, please aim for between 845pm and 915pm. This will be the last in-person chance to take advantage of the February $20 double-early discount. Of course, you could also benefit from that discount by mailing your payment before March.

      Thanks and regards, Aris.
