Love those $100 chess clocks that are unusable in any tournaments with an increment.

      Hi Ben,

When I was in Vancouver for the book launch of the Suttles trilogy, I came across an ad for this place in a local free newspaper. I did a double-take LOL. Anyway, I went over there to check out the place. I spoke with the sales person. The place had not been open for that long...the fact it is still there a few years later means it is making a go of things.

Vancouver now has the honour (?!) of having Strategies Games and Math & Chess :)...they say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" :)

I have always wanted to open in Vancouver...well...I guess this is as close as I will ever come :)

        Chess Academy of Canada...

Roman Pelts, a highly regarded individual in International Chess Circles, created the "Chess Academy of Canada" in Toronto. In the last year, he has closed down his school but continues to offer private lessons.

He advertises on the CMA site at: http://chess-math.org/private_lessons.htm

As much as I find the Vancouver situation to be a little humourous...Roman must be a little frustrated by two companies that have spawned from his creation.

The people involved in both these companies have worked with Roman before they went out on their own...you will note the similarities in the names they have adopted:

        The "Canadian Chess Academy"

        http://www3.webng.com/chessteacherno1/

Interesting...I would say the most successful chess coach in Canada is Jean Hebert who taught 2 Canadian youngsters who became grandmasters...Alexandre Leseige and Thomas Roussel-Roozmon...

however on this site you will read: "the best chess teacher in Canada"

The other is "Chess Institute of Canada"

        http://www.chessinstitute.ca/

Of course, none of these organizations operate outside of the center of the universe...but obviously the name sells...Chess'n Math Association...duh...what a lame name :)

Congrats Roman for your contribution to Canadian chess for over 30 years...you deserve all our respect!
