Kevin's game is online. He's white in a Ruy Lopez. My old Fritz considers him to have compensation for the early pawn sac.

Black lost in the opening. By the time Kevin played 9. c3 the game was pretty much lost for black in my opinion. 10. Qh5 simply sealed the deal.

Maybe Kevin will analyse the game in his blog.

I'm certainly not master level, but after 9 c3, NCO has +/=. My computer thought the game was even for quite a while.

In any case, a nice little game to get the tournament started with.

Computers have a horizon effect. I figure NCO is simply wrong with that evaluation and maybe they used a computer analysis.

In any case, if the line is good for black you'd see it more in top play.

Kevin Spraggett beat Henrik Teske and is in joint 2nd place with 5.5/7 (+4 =3 -0). He is the only 'veteran' near the top of the standings. Hopefully he can do well in the remaining rounds.

He faces Hans Tikkanen (2550) with black in Round 8.

Re: Cappelle La Grande - International Chess Open 2011

Kevin has a big game in his final round. He still has a chance for a first place tie if he wins. Kevin has white.

Board 1 has to be a draw and the other leader on board 2 has to draw or lose for a big first place tie.
