    Dear Chessplayers

    The Guelph Spring Pro Am has changed from its original schedule and format in order to compliment the Canadian Closed and Zonal Championship. Sorry for the inconvenience. Here is the new flyer:

    Guelph Spring Pro-Am
    May 6-8, 2011
    A SWOCL Grand Prix Event
    Peter Clark Hall, Guelph University Centre
    5 Round Swiss;
    3 FIDE Sections: Pro, U1900, U1500
    Players wishing to play up must pay $20 per 100 points (or part thereof) below the section floor. Proceeds to the 2011 Canadian Closed
    Round Times: Friday 6pm, Saturday 10:am, 4:00pm, Sunday 10:00am, 4:00pm
    Time Control: 40/90, G30 plus 30 seconds from first move
    Entry Fees: Pro Section $60, others $40. Late Fee: $10.00 on site
    Half Point Byes: in rounds 1-4 may be requested in advance
    Prizes: $55 per Pro player returned as prizes.
    Trophies awarded in other sections
    Register: Mail to TD Hal Bond, 205 – 105 Conroy Crescent, Guelph, ON N1G 2V5,
    email halbond@sympatico.ca, or cash on site from 4:00 – 5:30pm Players registering after 5:30 Friday may not receive a swiss pairing in first round.
    Equipment, snacks and refreshments provided by organizer

    What does 3 FIDE sections mean? We presently don't have any under 1500 FIDE-rated players, and only a dozen or so under 1900. Plus isn't G/90 is too fast to be FIDE-rated in the PRO section?

      That is one of the standard FIDE time controls for title events: "90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from the first move"
