Result of GM So Simul:
Thirteen players aged 11 – 65 years old braved the cold weather to test their skills against super GM Wesley So 2667. Side by side, they struggled to find their moves as the GM moves rapidly. But the GM’s experience and expertise is too much to handle for John Orenbach 1800 barely 30 minutes into the simul.
However, GM* Andrew Picana struck back with a quick and unbelievable victory in 25 moves in a Sicilian Najdorf where he successfully waded through against the 6.f3 of the GM. This game will be presented here in chess talk later together with photos of the event.
Then in succession, Razvan Preotu 2073, NM Jeffrey Nool 2300 and Ferdinand Cale lost before Erwin Casareno 2165 took the draw by repetition (despite being a pawn up) in a R + N + 5P ending. The score is +4 =1 -1 in favor of the GM.
Mikhail Egorov 2109, Ferdinand Supsup 1835, Manuel Balboa 2300* and Jingle Kho 2088 lost before Pepin Manalo 1762 got the draw. The GM then collected 2 more points from Gil Bince 1844 and Owen Qian 1461 to complete his triump +10 =2 -1.
Note that all 3 players who scored the point are members of the Scarborough Chess Club.
