    Result of GM So Simul:

Thirteen players aged 11 – 65 years old braved the cold weather to test their skills against super GM Wesley So 2667. Side by side, they struggled to find their moves as the GM moves rapidly. But the GM’s experience and expertise is too much to handle for John Orenbach 1800 barely 30 minutes into the simul.

However, GM* Andrew Picana struck back with a quick and unbelievable victory in 25 moves in a Sicilian Najdorf where he successfully waded through against the 6.f3 of the GM. This game will be presented here in chess talk later together with photos of the event.

Then in succession, Razvan Preotu 2073, NM Jeffrey Nool 2300 and Ferdinand Cale lost before Erwin Casareno 2165 took the draw by repetition (despite being a pawn up) in a R + N + 5P ending. The score is +4 =1 -1 in favor of the GM.

Mikhail Egorov 2109, Ferdinand Supsup 1835, Manuel Balboa 2300* and Jingle Kho 2088 lost before Pepin Manalo 1762 got the draw. The GM then collected 2 more points from Gil Bince 1844 and Owen Qian 1461 to complete his triump +10 =2 -1.

Note that all 3 players who scored the point are members of the Scarborough Chess Club.

    Individual Results:

    1.Razvan Preotu 2073 Burlington lost
    2.Mikhail Egorov 2109 Burlington lost
3.NM Dante Zuniga 2354 Toronto late
4.NM Jeffrey Nool 2041 Scarborough lost
    5.Andrew Picana 2182 Scarborough win
    6.Erwin Casareno 2165 Scarborough draw
    7.Ferdinan Supsup 1835 Mississauga lost
    8.Jingle Kho 2088 Mississauga lost
9.Gil Bince 1844 Port Coquitlam, BC lost
    10.Owen Qian 1461 Mississauga lost
    11.John Orenbach 1800 Toronto lost
    12.Pepin Manalo 1762 Scarborough draw
    13.Manuel Balboa 2015 Toronto lost
    14.Ferdinand Cale 1900 Scarborough lost

The organizers, Andrew Picana and me, thank the players for thier participation in the simul (despite short notice of 26 hours) , to kick off the official chess campaign of GM Wesley So in Canada.

Next to watch is the expected match between GM Wesley So and GM Bator Sambuev. Who will win the 2011 Hamilton Winter Open?

              Hi Egis,

I have been trying for 4 days to post pics here, using the [img]value[/img} as outlined, but to no avail. So i decided to post them where you viewed them. I did not want to publish one of them but i was in the picture and gave an overview of the participants.

Believe me, that when the simul started, and the young GM started to create attack on your position, you no longer notice those things, or remember where you are. It's just the board and pieces that you see, and his hand hoverign quickly above the pieces to make the move.

In the pic, i was the only one not in jacket. I felt energy after i gained a one pawn edge. I was busy asking my h pawn, "can you reach h8?" But the GM's black rook yelled at me, " No way!". I answered back, "really? how about making you work on a6, defending your friend Nc6?" lol!

On a more serious note, about future MCCs activities, we are looking at bringing GM Wesley So to MCC Mississauga for a lecture/simul when he comes back to Canada. Another plan is to coordinate lecture/simul at the Strategy Games store/ CMA. And possibly to Woodbridge as well. This is all under consideration for the future. I have to consolidate these plans with our members.

Here is one of the games
