After the simul exhibition of GM Wesley So and the refreshment, a six round 5 minute SD blitz tournament was conducted, where 2 games were played against every opponent.
Two new players joined: Bobby Palacios and Rene Preotu – whose goodness is very much appreciated, decided to play to make the field even.
In round 1, Manny Balboa CFC 2015 showed why the Filipino players recognize his strength at 2300, by defeating the GM Wesley So in the first game. However, in the second game, Manny expressed his admiration of the GM when his king was mated on the 6th rank with only 4 seconds remaining on the GM’s clock.
The ensuing rounds were bloody. All the players suffered defeat except for the GM, who went to to win all his games. The winner is without doubt, GM Wesley So with 11 points out of 12.
The top 3 finishers won cash prizes. But everyone knows that everybody is a winner by just playing in a tournament with Wesley.
The organizers would like to thank Rene Preotu for helping Erwin in TDing the blitz tournament. Also, we thak our wives, Blanche Casareno and Celeste Picana for assisting us in the food and refreshment preparation and serving. We also thank all our friends who in one way or another has made this day a day of fun and happiness.
But most of all, we thank Wesley's family, especially his mom Elleanor as well as the Regional Director of CMA, Mr. Francis Rodriguez, who facilitated communications with relevant parties. Thanks also to the Chesstalk website which served as the main advertisement site of the simul.
