    2011 Alberta Closed & Reserves

The 2011 Alberta Closed & Reserves takes place this weekend at the Calgary Chess Club.

The 2011 Alberta Closed will determine Alberta's rep to the Canadian Closed & Zonal this year in Guelph. The winner will receive a cash prize and funding to attend the Canadian Closed. The format is the usual 6 player round robin. This year's tournament will be tough as Alberta's two strongest players will be participating. Here are the players:

    IM Eric Hansen
    IM Edward Porper
    FM Dale Haessel
    NM Richard Wang
    NM Nicolas Haynes
    Vlad Rekhson

Time control will be 40/90, G/30 + 30 second increment.

All the games will be broadcast live on the ACA website. The drawing of lots was done last week and the pairings are also available on the website.

Round 1 has started. Unfortunately, one of the boards is not working so we can only broadcast 2 of the 3 games this round, hope to have the problem resolved for round 2 tomorrow.

NM Nicolas Haynes vs. IM Edward Porper

Here are the full results for round 3:

                Porper 0-1 Hansen
                Rekhson 0-1 Wang
                Haessel 0-1 Haynes

Black continues to rake in this tournament. All games have been decisive, no draws after 3 rounds. Black has won 7 of the 9 games so far! If that's not competitive chess, I don't know what is.

                Standings:
                Hansen - 3
                Porper - 2
                Wang - 2
                Haynes - 2
                Haessel - 0
                Rekhson - 0
Round 4 begins at 10 am tomorrow morning. We will be broadcasting the following 2 boards:
                Haynes vs. Hansen
                Wang vs. Porper

Maybe it's "just me", but whether I used Firefox, Opera or Chrome, as a replay device, all I was able to see was Black's half of the board. As a PGN-downloader, the results were more mixed. In Firefox, it worked fine. In Opera 11, it crashed the browser.

                  Thanks for thinking of us!

Good to know. I had only tried it in Explorer and Safari where it seemed to work well.

I can fix it so that it will display the entire board in Firefox, Opera or Chrome, it's all in the way I frame it. Basically, I upload to a page on the net then use an html frame on the page to display. Or, I could just give you the actual url so that you can view the flash page as it is published. I have no control over design, but I can make the board larger or smaller.
