The name of Peter Dauvergne is mentioned in the article. He played in the 1982-83 Canadian Junior, and throughout eastern Canada and US throughout the 1980's. My database also shows him in a 1999 tournament in Sydney, Australia.

A Google search shows him as a "Professor of Political Science and Canada Research Chair in Global Environmental Politics" at UBC.

One of the papers he pubished in 2000 (in Sydney) was:

"The Case for Chess as a Tool to Develop Our Children’s Minds"
