  • Magnus Carlsen Article in the New Yorker

Has anybody read the Magnus Carlsen article in the March 21, 2011 issue of the New Yorker magazine? The article is called The Prince's Gambit and it runs for about 6 pages. I was impressed that such a prestigious magazine would devote so much space to chess.

Considering that it was written for the public at large, it was not the stereotypical chess article. The article begins describing the game in which he saved against Kramnik in the sixth round of the London Chess Classic tournament. It was amusing that the game is described to the general public like a boxing match -- probably a good idea!

It goes on to describe the influence Kasparov had on him how Magnus is basically a self taught player who dislikes the 'computer' influence on the game.

    Thank you New Yorker magazine.
