  • HS Day One from Kingston

We got off to a double-exclam start when Ted Hsu, Member of Parliament for Kingston, opened the event and remembered his own youth playing chess in the very same splendid venue Grant Hall. Ted spoke of the great value of chess in building skills which translate to success in other areas.

Fourth seed Jackie Peng was held to an upset draw in round one, but came back to win in round two. She had had a Piano exam in the morning, so a very busy day. Ottawa masters Karoly Szalay and Jerry Xiong each won both games in fine style, and will meet today.

Today will see three rounds, chess merchandise sold by Larry Bevand, Brian Profit's arrival as Executive TD, a planning meeting this afternoon, and a couple of inquiries on unusual situations from day one.

    More later.
