  • Canadian players in Pan-AM Youth 2011

This year PanAmerican Youth will be in Cali (Columbia) in the same period as CYCC. Even USA and Canada decided not to send any official players some brave parents decided to participate in this tournament.

    Pre-registration list is here.

I believe CFC and USCF federations decided no to send a team based on this:

OFFICIAL WARNING: Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada advises against non-essential travel to the city of Cali

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the dangers of travel to Colombia.

Hopefully everything will be OK and they will be back with continental titles. Good luck!

The same site also has warnings for US travellers to Canada - e.g. crimes DO happen, or to be alert when driving on highway 401 in Ontario - many accidents happen.

(it has warnings for just about every country in the world)

FIDE and friends have a special talent to send players young and old to nice places...

                      Thank you, Hugh!

Highway 401, from Detroit to Montreal, is one of the busiest highways in North America. It has been the scene of numerous, deadly traffic accidents due to sudden, severe and unpredictable weather changes, high rates of speed, and heavy truck traffic. There have been numerous incidents involving road racing and dangerous truck driving. Drivers tend to be aggressive, often exceeding speed limits and passing on both sides, and police enforcement is spotty.

Not the case last Saturday between Kitchener and Windsor. There must have been at least a half dozen cars pulled over on each side of the road on the way there and on the way back.
