Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
This is a report cobbled together from an email from Vlad Drkulec.
There were 18 teams altogether, and it was a well run event though there were a few glitches with at least one clock being set for an increment instead of the Bronstein control in round 1.
The Windsor team consisted of Denton Cockburn (2226), Zoltan Kiraly (2202), Vlad Drkulec (2135), and Istvan Kiraly (2104). Windsor won all five matches, with scores of
4-0 London
3-1 Hamilton
4-0 Annex A (who upset Kitchener in round 1)
3-1 Willowdale
2.5-1.5 Kitchener
On first board, Denton did the heavy lifting, and finished at 2-3. Zoltan and Vlad played boards 2 and 3, and took home trophies for top individual scores with identical 5-0 records. Istvan would have joined us but misplayed a better position in a time scramble in the last round and blundered back a piece that he had won earlier to finish with 4.5-0.5.
Lots of fun. Windsor played on the first table and never moved for the whole event.

I inverted round two and three and the Toronto/Mississauga team was really Willowdale with Michael Barron and Mike Ivanov et al. I just got home when I responded to John's email so I was a bit tired. Lots of OPP on the road to Windsor tonight.
I also was wrong on who upset Kitchener as it was Annex A and not Parry Sound.

That's a pretty strong average. I think Vlad was saying it's an upset because he knew the Kitchener players.

I know Hugh and at least a few of the guys on his team as well. I wasn't aware that Annex A was his team. The only team listings that I became familiar with were those of the teams which we played and that only from the pairing sheets that we had to fill out. The drawback of the short time control and the lack of a break other than for lunch was that we didn't really have time to look around and see who was on which team so the only thing I knew about Annex A was that the team captain was Rolando and that the rating shown in the post column of the final results was 1994 which I probably could have ignored. It shows the Windsor team's post rating as 2355 which might be true in some parallel universe but seems a bit high for this one.

I'm guessing that 12 MCGLYNN KWBB is Kitchener Waterloo Chess Club's B-team... But who are 8 RDM and 9 WIGHT STkEITH?
Crosstables at the site indicated the more full form of "Dima RDM" (perhaps as in Dima Shamroni's carpool) on a cross-table. Keith Wight & their team are the (municipality of) St Catherine's (Ontario), between Hamilton & Niagara Falls regions. Not sure that there was a restriction that a player representing a city/club had to be a member within the area - but who's all that worried? If the team collects a team prize, they can decide who to admit as honourary club members or honourary regional club champ/heroes.

Hi marcus Wight St keith is the St. Catharines chess club which conisted Keith wight (1991),Matt Thomson (1899), Me (1803), and Leslie Tang (1655) Leslie and I are still provisional, and I think we did a good job.
Wight St. Keith is a nice play on words and it was good to see a full team from St Catherines this time! (even tho I didnt play this year - I expect I'll be back next year).
In the pgns that follow, board numbers (sometimes, seats of a team can switch in terms of their ranking by rating on a pairing to a table - as used in the Cdn. Post-sec event), ratings (took max(activehigh, reghigh, FIDE) when possible) or team names might not be accurate: http://www.chess.ca/xtableSQL.asp?TNum=201106027
Mr Siddeley also asked for one or two of his scoresheets that we thought we saw on a table after the 5th round cleanup, but it hasn't yet turned up.
time-control is 25min/player +10sec/move, 5 rounds with team pairings of 4/table.
