Looks like Eric will get Radjabov. Might still change though.

FIDE has posted the first round pairings to the World Cup on their website. It seems our Canadian players will face against the Russians (both names are Alexander lol):

GM Alexander Grischuk - IM Eric Hansen
GM Alexander Motylev - GM Mark Bluvshtein

All the best to IM Hansen and GM Bluvshtein at the World Cup!

Not bad. It should be a great experience for Eric and I think that Mark has a decent chance of making it through to the next round.

Motylev loses about 1 out of every 8 games on average.

The best chance of beating Grischuk is with white.

is that not the case for any player? (serious question)
everytime it hurts, it hurts just like the first (and then you cry till there's no more tears)

If you check Grischuk's FIDE statistics page, he's only lost 5 games with white. He loses a larger precentage and more games with black.

I guess Eric will have to use his massive anti-Grischuk preparation next time!

Well, I hope he hasn't spent too much time on it already (although it might be useful all the same...) and let's hope the match-ups don't change again!
I saw the revised pairings on Susan Polgar's blog, but I don't recall any explanation of why they changed (of course, this is FIDE, so it is likely aliens changed the rules)
