  • GM Shabalov lecture, day 1

Yesterday was day 1 of the GM Shabalov lecture series at the Edmonton Chess Club. It featured a 7 hour
lecture marathon (with a nice one hour break in the middle). We had a total of
18 people attending the lecture with three players arriving from Calgary just in
    time.
The lecture first featured a game of GM Nakamura-GM Kramnik from Dortmund of
this year and after that the topic became GM Radjabov's treatment of the King's
Indian Defense. We looked at several of his games and at one point with the
suggestion of Roy Yearwood we looked at the very nice win of GM Sambuev over GM
Perelshteyn from this year's Canadian Open.

Today the lecture will be 6-7:30 pm, with the topic of some ideas such as when
to capture with pawns towards the centre of the board and when away, as well as
some other basic ideas of this nature.

At 7:30 GM Shabalov will be conducting a simul.

Tomorrow GM Shabalov will be concluding his lecture series with a topic of how,
when and where should you consider sacrificing pawns. This will last from 5-9
followed by FM Alisa Melekhina's one hour lecture on the Anti-Sicilian systems.

    See you there.
