  • Ok, so it's been a month with the new board...

It's been a month since we lost the old chess talk, what do you think of this new board?

For me, I don't like this board. For one thing, the screen is ugly and depressing, all blue tones. I guess the structure itself is okay, I am familiar with it from other boards.

Content... well, what can I say. At least on the old board we had the CFC to complain about, but now that the CFC is achieving invisibility, what do we have left? I won't mention any names, but an old guy rambling about the glory days of yesteryear, and a young twerp obsessed with ... I dunno, whatever it is, some sort of non-music... just don't make for a vibrant community.

      :)

      11. h5 is played by Anand and John Elberg in the games I saw.

Also, isn't 39. g5 an outright blunder? Maybe white is already losing by that time but the text seems to seal the deal.

I like the way Spassky used the edge squares and unblocked his pawns.

I can't recall seeing that very pretty game before. Thanks for posting it, Lawrence.

Seems to me like some good chess stuff is being posted here - I think the new site is quite worthwhile, and complemented by the new CFC Chess Forum.

Re: Spassky gems - thanks Lawrence!

Yes Spassky! - another gem - thanks Lawrence! maybe we could have a game of the week on this board! - this one would win hands down. Anyways two games in one thread! - boy are we lucky! - and even an attempt at chess analysis (which I wont attempt to answer blindfold - Lol!)

Looks like (in the Inarkiev game) another time pressure tragedy. Pawn push decisions are tricky enough with lots of time but doing them in front of your king and in (assumed) time pressure are a sure recipe for disaster. In the old days an adjournment at the right time would have helped White win this game. Anyways I like Spassky's crisp handling of the queen as opposed to Qb1 and rook shuffles. Even so this is a great maneuvering game which illustrates many possible sacrifices and attempts to attack for White and precision defensive play for Black. Exciting!
