  • FIDE rule change

FIDE has changed the rules regarding partial ratings.
Now a player with only partial FIDE ratings won't have to play 3 FIDE rated players in each subsequent event for it to count. This also means players who play these partially rated opponents will actually stand to gain points (before the game wouldn't count at all).

The also increased the K factor for new FIDE players, which should allow for faster correction of inaccurate ratings.

"The following proposals were agreed at the General Assembly in Khanty Mansiysk.

Changes effective from July 1, 2011.

K factor for players with fewer than 30 rated games is 30 (was 25) Articles 8.26, 8.34 and 8.56.

If a player has achieved a partial rating, each subsequent game against rated player is accumulated to the player’s rating (earlier three games in a tournament were needed) Article 8.21."

Thanks for spotting that. But your comment "This also means players who play these partially rated opponents will actually stand to gain points (before the game wouldn't count at all).", is not necessarily true. See 8.52 amd 8.53.

You're correct Tony. I don't understand why they do it that way. It gives incentive for the already rated player to not care about the result.

          Re: FIDE rule change

It turns out that they've completely gotten rid of the minimum 1 point rule.
In the September rating list, they've included partial ratings for people who have faced even just 1 FIDE rated player.

This makes it a lot easier to adopt FIDE ratings, which is a pretty nice thing.
