2012 Canadian Youth Chess Championship - July 3–6, 2012, Surrey, BC
Congratulations to the BC Junior Chess Association and Chief Organizer Ken Jensen on being awarded the bid to host the 2012 Canadian Youth Chess Championship - July 3–6, 2012, Surrey, BC.
I would also like to thank the members of the organizing committee, specifically members Victoria Doknjas, Stephen Wright, Wendy Jensen, and Andrei Botez, for all of their advance planning and work already.
The location of the event to be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel is spectacular. For those of you who are not familiar with Surrey -- as your detailed bid points out.... Surrey is the second largest city in BC. Located 30 minutes from the downtown core of Vancouver, the tournament location is less than a block away from the large Guildford shopping centre. There are a wide variety of restaurants, shops, theatres, a public library,
community center and park all within walking distance. The hotel is located on public transit and offers a shuttle service to the Vancouver airport. The Sheraton Guildford is centrally located between a number of Vancouver attractions. A 30 minute drive can find you enjoying the beaches of Whiterock, the mountains of the north shore or Stanley park.
You have received the unanimous support of the CFC Executive in acceptance of this bid - the only bid received for the 2012 CYCC.
The CYCC will be followed by the 2012 Canadian Open (July 8 to 13, 2012) at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Victoria, BC and will be very convenient to those planning on attending both events next year!
