  • CHOM2011 - something new in section A

We recently learned that a number of chess players, disappointed over being ineligible for section A because their rating is below 2000, might abstain from participating in the Montreal Open Championship this year.

The 2000 minimum requirement was established in order to enhance the title of Champion of Montreal and also in order to increase the participant chances to play against FIDE-rated opponents.

We want to preserve these two objectives. But we also listen to you, our clients. Which is why we have decided to relax a bit the eligibility rules with regard to section A :

If your rating is within 1800 to 1999, you may register in section A provided you pay a 30 $ supplement and, if not a CFC member, 10 $ (cost subsidized by the Organising Committee) for a CFC tournament passport.

The additional amount must be paid no later than Friday evening Sept. 9 at 18:00 to ensure your right to play in section A.

As for players within the same rating range already registered who want to jump to section A, please write us at www.championnatdemontreal@gmail.com. We will advise you by e-mail the additional amount to pay.
