  • Did you receive Summer CCN ?

The CCN Summer edition was e-mailed from the CFC office on Aug 30. Gerry reports approximately 200 bounce backs. It is possible that some of these may have been due to the larger than usual size of the magazine.

Any members who did not receive the magazine should contact the business office.

The bounce message should have included the reason for the non-delivery, but then, as in all things email - there are so many mail transport programs that decide they know better and don't bother doing things that 'should be done'. It would take Gerry quite a while to sift through them anyway, and since the issue is so large, what would he do anyway?

Perhaps the files should be put on the CFC server and a download link sent instead? To combat people guessing the location and (OMG) getting a copy without being a member, the location could be randomly varied every issue...

IMHO, just make it open to everybody (instead of a November issue). It was delayed for several months. Now there is a distribution problem. Why to make it more difficult?

          The archive: http://chess.ca/cfc-newsletter-archive

The file size is ~9.7. An email box shows as 13.

Thank you Egis. A practical solution that could save us a lot of work. We normally allow public access to several issues each year to help promote the newsletter and CFC memberships, so why not this issue.

I will suggest it to the executive. :)

Why not simply put it up on the site and let whoever wants to download have it.

Let people read and enjoy the magazine. See what's happening in their area. See what events are available.

I know it probably rubs against the grain to do that but you could expense the copies against promotion and advertisement of the CFC. Maybe get some members from those who download it. You don't have to give it away forever. Also, it would solve the problem of making it easily accessable for members.

I used to do that with the correspondence club. When I got a letter from someone who was not a member I mailed a magazine. I always thought it was a professional thing to do. After all, I was trying to sell them a membership.
