  • Buffalo FIDE Open Oct. 15-16 / I am playing...

    Dear Chess Friends in Canada,
This is to renew the invitation I posted at http://www.chesstalk.info/forum/showthread.php?t=5532 to play in our Buffalo FIDE Open, Oct. 15-16. Open prizes are $400-150-100, Under-2100 prize $125, Under-1800 prize $100. Official flyer and other info at http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~regan/ch...ctTmts2011.pdf. USCF membership or tourney fee onsite is required.

In our September event, as reported on the Buffalo chess blog here http://buffalochess.blogspot.com/201...mer-chess.html, WFM Anna Levina came up from Ithaca, NY and shocked your IM Brian Hartman and the rest of the field to win clear. I was unable to play then owing to my work, but I am definitely playing in this one, though needing a Sat. round-3 bye for personal reasons. Hope to see some of you here---enjoy your Oct. 8--10 events in the meantime---and I look forward to venturing across the border again next year.

    ---IM Ken Regan

    I am definitely taking a round-3 bye.

Meanwhile, here is a joint paper on evidence of no rating inflation: http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/~regan/papers/pdf/RMH11.pdf It includes a partial run of the 2011 Canadian Open.

I have also run all available games from last month's Montreal Open. My model based on analyzing moves so-far gives an "Intrinsic Rating" of 2103 for all moves of all games in the A secvtion. The average CFC rating of that section was 2109. This tells me my methods must be fairly close...

      Impressive, Kenneth.

Your scientific article should be published in a scientific journal. Your format is typical for publishing scientific findings between the border of reality and imaginary.

By the way, we have played together in a rapid tournament in Buffalo (which you won) way back in 2009 december 18? under the ambassador of chess Mr. McDuffy.

And i have recorded and pbulished a video of that tournament.
