The Hart House Chess Club is proud to be hosting the Holidays Open from December 16th-18th.

When: December 16, 17, 18 (Fri, Sat, Sun)
Where: Hart House, University of Toronto, 2nd Floor
Style: 5 round Swiss in 4 sections: Open (FIDE Rated), U2200, U1900 & U1600
Rounds: 6pm Friday, 10am & 4pm Saturday & Sunday
Time Control: 120 mins + 30 sec inc for Open Section, 30/90, SD/60 for other sections
Byes: Maximum of 2 in rounds 1-4 if requested in advance.

Entry Fee: $70 in advance, $90 cash only on site. Extra $20 to play up each section. No cheques on-site.
Discounts: $10 less for Juniors (born after December 17th, 1993), Seniors (60+), Women,
FIDE Masters, and University of Toronto students (show ID card). Only one discount per player.
Free for IMs before December 9th, $60 afterwards, $70 on-site.

Other Info: No Smoking. Please bring sets and clocks.

Free for new CFC members

As an incentive for players new to tournament chess, we are waiving the entry fee for non-CFC members. To qualify for the free entry, you must never have played in a CFC rated tournament, and you must show ID on site.

You will be required to pay for a minimum 1 year CFC membership (on site, or in advance), and you will not be eligible for prizes.

1 year CFC membership in Ontario:

Adult - $48
Junior- $30

And I'm excited about this tournament. Hart House is such a great venue for chess!

There's no early entry discount (just +$20 to register on site) but let's all do the organizers a favour and pre-register for this great event. If you know you're playing, why not let them know a few weeks in advance?!

Weird how there aren't any 1800s registered

That is kind of strange... wonder what the odds are of that happening. I would think 1800s are right around the peak of the tournament going bell curve.

Then again... most of the entries come in the last week anyway, hopefully some 1800s are reading this now and step in to close the gap :D

Perhaps we should aim to fill two chess boards? 128 players?

The Hart House Holidays Open has now crossed 100 early entries, with still a few days to go

Definitely the best turn-out for us at this time of the year in comparison to previous editions, we're well on track to passing the target we set of 120 players :D

Do you think the lower entry fee has brought some extras out of the wood
work. I know for me I'm back playing due to the lower entry fee.
