  • New Junior Chess Initiative at the Scarborough Chess Club

The Scarborough Chess Club is pleased to announce a new initiative in support of junior chess.

Starting this year, the Scarborough Chess Club will provide a prize to club members who represent Canada at the WYCC (see rules below). Prize winners will be awarded a one year extension to their club membership and a one year extension to their CFC membership as recognition of their accomplishment in representing Canada at a premiere international chess event.

This year Team Canada at the WYCC includes four members from the Scarborough Chess Club. They are Taylor Zhang (U08 girls), Varshini Paraparan (U10 girls), Yuanchen Zhang (U10 open) and Michael Song (U12 open). The club will present the awards to these players upon their return from the WYCC at the beginning of December. The Scarborough Chess Club wishes these four players and the whole Canadian team the best of luck in Brazil.

    SCC WYCC Award Rules

The award will be made shortly after the conclusion of the WYCC in a given year at the club on a regular playing night. To qualify, award winners must be Scarborough Chess Club members in good standing as of the start of our chess season (the first Thursday in September prior to the WYCC) and they must play at the WYCC in that year under the Canadian flag.
